Frequently Asked Questions

A few things clients often ask before we begin

1

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you often feel overwhelmed, struggle with self-doubt, find yourself stuck in recurring relationship patterns, or have difficulty managing strong emotions, counselling may be helpful. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore what is happening beneath the surface, gain greater self-understanding, and develop new ways of coping, healing, and relating to yourself and others.

2

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. I currently offer online counselling sessions, allowing you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own space. All you need is a stable internet connection and a quiet place where you feel comfortable talking.

3

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, concerns, and circumstances. During our first session, we will discuss what brings you to counselling and identify the goals you hope to achieve. Together, we will develop a plan and estimate the number of sessions that may be helpful, while remaining flexible as your needs evolve.

4

Do you offer direct billing?

Currently, direct billing may be available for clients covered by the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program and through TELUS Health eClaims (for participating insurance plans). For other insurance plans, clients are responsible for payment at the time of the session and will receive a receipt that can be submitted to their insurance provider for reimbursement. If you have questions about your coverage, I would be happy to discuss this with you.

5

What can I expect in the first session?

Meeting a counsellor for the first time can feel a little nerve-wracking, and that’s completely understandable. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and paced according to your comfort level.

In our first session, we’ll begin by talking about what brings you to counselling and the challenges that feel most important to address. Together, we’ll explore your experiences, identify patterns that may be contributing to distress, and consider what might be triggering difficult emotions. The first one or two sessions are focused on building understanding, establishing goals, and creating a treatment plan that supports your unique needs and hopes for therapy.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you come — therapy is a space where we can make sense of things together.
